LBQA Awards
Scholarships for Summer 2005

Several local delegations will visit China
this spring and summer, thanks in part to scholarship support by the Long
Beach-Qingdao Association. Its Scholarship
Committee just awarded $6,500 in grants to several scholars from California
State University, Long Beach.

Funds were
awarded for travel by the following CSULB departments:
- Three faculty members in
the Art Department, David Hadlock, Yu Ji, and Kay Kvapil,, who will be
seeking exchange relationships with several fine arts schools, including
those in Shanghai, Tiajnin and Beijing.
- Three faculty, John
Attinasi, David Dowell, and Xiaoping Liang, and ten graduate students from
the Department of Linguistics who will study the teaching of English as a
Foreign Language at six universities, including Qingdao University.
- One professor in Teacher
Education, Shuhua An, who will chair a symposium on technology and
teaching as well as explore new linkages in teacher education.
- One professor of
Criminal Justice, John Wang, who will visit Fudan University in Shanghai
to pursue exchange with both academics and local police.
- One graduate student in
German (NAME?), who will study the history of German involvement in China.
The recipients will be asked to prepare a brief report of their visit and
make a presentation to the Association, so that members can learn from these
scholars, too.
