Real Estate, Entertainment & the Emerging Chinese Middle Class: Fun Times Ahead
Monday, June 6, 2005

Left to Right:  William Collier (KYL), Mary Barton (Barton Group), Lee Lanselle (Spkr)
Lee Penn Lanselle, General Manager, Asia Parks Limited, discussed the entertainment real estate market in China before a fascinated group of business executives in Long Beach on Monday, June 6, at the offices of Keesal, Young & Logan.  Lanselle explained the increasing importance of entertainment venues in Chinese real estate development,  Entertainment can be a source of differentiation in an otherwise humdrum, look-alike retail shopping center.  More and more savvy Chinese consumers look for a good experience while shopping, especially to satisfy a growing child's appetite for thrills.
In China today, theme parks are being built or rejuvenated, Las Vegas look-alike hotels are being built, and hundreds of millions of Chinese are eager to spend their money on U.S.- generated entertainment.  Lanselle explained that the Chinese government is looking for ways to improve "quality of life," and theme parks are one mechanism they approve.
