Long Beach Qingdao Sister City Association
Honors Mayor Beverly O’Neill at the 2006 Celebration of
Chinese New Year & Spring Festival, Saturday, February 4th,
2006
LONG
BEACH, CA: The Long Beach
Qingdao Sister City Association will honor Mayor Beverly O’Neill at their
Annual Celebration of Chinese New Year and Spring Festival Event,
Saturday, February 4th, 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the Coast Long
Beach Hotel. This
year’s Chinese New Year Festival is particularly special as LBQA honors
Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill for her continued support of the
Association and its programs.
During her unprecedented twelve year term as the Mayor of this major port
city, Mayor O’Neill recognized the importance of sister city relations and
has been very generous with her time and support for many LBQA programs
and events over the years.
This year’s festival even more
significant as, Ambassador Zhong Jianhua, the Los Angeles-based Consul
General of the People’s Republic of
China,
has also elected to join in honoring the Mayor, despite his very busy
schedule. “This Celebration is one of the few times in the Association’s
history that we have both the Mayor of Long Beach and the Chinese Consul
General present at the same event,” states Wendy Chou, Chair LBQA. Also
joining in the celebration is Boeing’s Asian American Professional
Association, an association that spans cities and communities
throughout the Southland. (Proceeds from this event will go to the LBQA
Program and Scholarship fund).
LBQA
is an official Sister City between the City of Long Beach, California and
Qingdao, China. Established, in 1985, (see
www.lbqa.org). LBQA serves
as a link between the two port cities and works to facilitate and develop
better communication through business, cultural and educational programs.
Over the years, LBQA has continued to develop scholarship and exchange
programs for students, teachers, and sponsored cultural events in order to
bring the southland closer to the city of Qingdao and other cities in
China. With a goal of fostering good will between the U.S. and China, the
Association strives to promote the highest ideals of friendship, tolerance
and human understanding in light of the cultural differences and rich
heritages of both countries. Tickets and sponsorships for the Annual
Chinese New Year Celebration are available by visiting
