The LBQA has recruited an all-star team to enter a "Long Beach garden" exhibit at the 2014 International Horticultural Expo in Qingdao, from April-October 2014. Designers Michael Bohn and Kirk Keller from Studio One ELEVEN, a division of Perkowitz+Ruth (which has offices in Long Beach and Shanghai) are joining forces with Larry Price, the City's Sustainability Officer and horticulture experts Jorge Ochooa and Brian Hastie, from Long Beach City College. The ambitious undertaking will feature local plants (both native and commonly used imports) to illustrate the history of gardening in Long Beach. In addition to imaginative use of fire, the designers hope to include a "living wall" as well as outdoor furnishings to replicate the Southern California approache to "outdoor living" that characterizes local gardens. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Find out more in our Summer Newsletter.
