Qingdao Volunteers Committee
Mission & Goals
The mission of the 2008
Olympics Committee of the Long Beach-Qingdao Association is to assist our
Sister City, Qingdao, in successfully hosting the Sailing Regatta events
associated with the 2008 Olympics to be held in Beijing, China. It is anticipated that such assistance
will center on the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers. Our
goals are to achieve the following:

Development of a
training program to share how Long Beach hosted the sailing
events of the 1984 Olympics, and subsequent sailing competitions such as
the annual Congressional Cup, Trans-Pacific Race, etc., as well as general
guidance on volunteer management;

Delivery of that
training program to the Qingdao Olympics Volunteer Committee in
person via a small group of experts from Long Beach;
-
Consultation
as needed and requested by the Qingdao Olympics Volunteer Committee;
-
Possible recruitment
of volunteers to assist in the implementation of the 2006 and
2007 pre-Olympics regattas in Qingdao;
-
Possible volunteer
team to assist in the implementation of the 2008 Olympics
Sailing Regatta itself;
-
Other helpful activities as requested by the
Qingdao Olympics Committee.

Specific areas of training including:
-
Organization of sports competition;
-
management of the sports stadium;
-
management, maintenance, and operation of the harbour;
-
organization of the service work (including the accommodation,
transportation, food & drink arrangement, etc.)
-
management of the sports arena;
-
organization and management of Olympic volunteers;
-
protocol work of the Sailing Regatta;
- media
service of the Sailing Regatta.
